Equipment: Canon 5D Mk II, Canon 24mm 1.4 lens, Gitzo Tripod. Settings: ISO 800, Shutter speed 13s. A fairly quiet night around Inari last night, and a rather chilly minus 31 degrees centigrade. Our patience paid off yet again, however, as the spirits in the sky eventually decided to perform their magic and provide us with a dramatic show, which lasted for approximately 25 minutes. This is a picture of yours truly, taken using the camera's timer function.

The show goes on in the north! There has now been several nights of intense auroras, and it doesn`t look like it`s over yet. Tonight, the entire sky is yet again filled with fast moving bands and curtains and I am amazed over how long and intense the auroras have been these couple of nights, normally they come and fade, but now it`s like if someone is constantly feeding a fire. Nikon D3, Nikkor 20mm 2,8, 4-10 secs exposure, ISO 800-1000

Canada's Arctic was a major feature of the Opening Ceremonies for the Vancouver Winter Olympics. The centre stage was transformed on numerous occasion from an Arctic Ocean with Northern Lights dancing overhead to a sea filled with Orca's. A spectacular beginning to the Winter Games.
