SOLAR OUTLOOK: There are no big sunspots, no coronal holes, and no CMEs heading our way. Space weather should be mild for the next few days. Solar flares and auroras are unlikely.

CICADAS MEET VENUS: Every 17 years, a brood of cicadas emerges from the ground in the eastern USA. In staggering numbers, they breed, reproduce and die. This year they did it just in time for the 2004 Transit of Venus. In Baltimore, Maryland, Kris Culotta photographed the silhouette of a cicada crawling across his solar filter. "Fortunately I had high speed mode on. Always have to be ready for that opportunity!" says Kris.



Potentially Hazardous Asteroids (PHAs) are space rocks larger than approximately 100m that can come closer to Earth than 0.05 AU. None of the known PHAs are on a collision course with our planet, although astronomers are finding new ones all the time.
