Hi Tony, I saw my very first NLC display of the 2011 season and I have to say I was rather surprised by the high quality of the show considering that the prospects could be poor this year with increased solar activity. This display was type 3 brightness with obvious band and wave structures which were visible from 01.00 until near dawn, it peaked at 20 deg high and 100 deg long and was rather impressive for so early in the season. I spent all night taking images, could this display be a good omen for a surprise season in store?. Canon 450D ISO800, 18mm lens at various exposures
