This image of noctilucent clouds was captured on July 1, 2011, just west of Mitchell, South Dakota. I'm on-assignment documenting Tempest Tours, hosted by author Jenna Blum. The group includes storm chasers from Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, and U.S. When tour driver Marcia Perez spotted the phenomena, we pulled over and I began shooting. A few hours earlier, we were intercepting a severe thunderstorm with tornado warning in southeast South Dakota. This was a very peaceful and inspiring way to end the day.
