The northern lights were out last night from about 11 to midnight. At times, they were bright and well defined. This picture, Star Trails and Northern Lights, was shot at Elbow Lake near Grand Marais, MN. To create the image I used a Nikkor 10.5 DX full-frame fisheye wide-open and focused at infinity. I took 27 30-second exposures with my Nikon D200 at ISO 400. I stacked the exposures using LR/Enfuse to create star trails and help eliminate the noise in the photo. Even with the streaks, you can still make out the shape of the big dipper pointing right to the north star.
