Observing tips: Look west 30 to 60 minutes after sunset when the Sun has dipped 6o to 16o below the horizon. If you see luminous blue-white tendrils spreading across the sky, you've probably spotted a noctilucent cloud. Although noctilucent clouds appear most often at high latitudes such as Scandinavia and Canada, they have been sighted in recent years as far south as Colorado, Utah and Virginia. NLCs are seasonal, appearing most often in late spring and summer. In the northern hemisphere, the best time to look would be between mid-May and the end of August. Another exciting display of Noctilucent Clouds after a week of heavy rain and cloud (with flooding) that prevented viewing. I also finally proved to myself that NLC were visible all night long from 52'North around the summer solstice.

This NLC display is the best so far for the UK this season. The skies were bright and clear after a period of intense rain and flooding, June being the wettest month on record in Yorkshire.

NLC Pillars: What a stunning NLC display which appeared here before dawn. Once the normal cloud broke I was blessed with the most strangest of sights. Shooting up over my neighours rooftop were multiple thick intense white pillars of NLCs with vertical dark shadow shafts - I have never seen structure like this before! Scanning the type 4 white coloured display with binoculars revealed incredible snake like structure, ripples and net structure. It was hard to take in. It reached 30 degrees in height and would have been seen by even the most casual of observers. Amazing!

This was the brightest and longest NLC display of the season so far - they were visible for over 3 hours and were extremely bright!

Most of the sky was covered with low tropospheric clouds, but I was still able to see my first NLC display of 2007 through some large gaps.

I caught this bright display this morning at 12:23 AM MST until about 12:52 AM when it started to dissipate. There was still some NLC activity in the sky though at 2:52 AM while I was still working these images (took 153 shots in all). It was quite wide as you can see from the panoramic shot

I have already slept and then a friend have called me and told me about the NLCs. They were bright enough to see over the "light polluted" city of Leipzig.

I was heading outside to my car to get my car keys, and I took the backdoor to the backyard, and I instantly saw Noctilucent Clouds! I haven't seen them in 3 years since the summer of 2004.
