Paraselene / Moondog Halo

Paraselene is the scientific name for a moondog, moon dog or mockmoon. You can see this occurrence to the left and right of the moon in Sebastians picture. Light refraction from the moonlight “sunlight” occurs from ice crystals in the upper atmosphere creating a halo. These halos typically create a 22° circle around the moon. Similar phenomenons called coronas are produced by water droplets and are much smaller and colorful.

Wow. Absolutely one of the most beautiful images I have ever seen. I love the composition of putting the moon on top of one of the mountain peaks and the left dog on another! And the lit up clouds spilling over the range makes it very surreal! Bravo!
