Details:
After a 45 minute boat ride to Green Island (off the coast of Cairns, Australia), our group of about 200 eclipse chasers set up chairs, telescopes, binoculars and cameras in the dark and waited patiently under a quite clear and spectacular sky for the main event shortly after sunrise. During totality, the sun was blocked by the disk of the moon and its outer atmosphere--the corona--shone through magnificently. Of the 14 total eclipses Ive experienced, this was arguably one of the prettiest. The darkness of the moons circular shadow appears a bit skewed as its projected onto the eastern sky. Venus appears far to the upper left of the eclipsed sun. Of course no photograph, video or computer simulation can ever capture the true magic of this celestial event!
