Snow storms and cloud gave way this evening to clear skies. A quick, high sensitivity exposure to the north revealed the characteristic green glow of Northern Lights just above the horizon. However this was but a prelude to the fantastic show we got this evening. A fantastic and awe inspiring display with lots of variety and incredible diversity of structure, all the more appreciated bearing in mind that this was supposed to be a quiet day for the aurora borealis!

With the BIGGEST FULL MOON OF THE YEAR, I went outside with 24 other persons. We wanted to watch the Northern Lights. Because of the full moon, it was very difficult but we enjoy, anyway... the weather was -22 C, no wind and an almost clear sky.

Last nights full moon (well almost full) provided the ideal conditions for Northern Lights photography here in Canada's Arctic. I waited patiently for a half an hour before the celestial show began. What a show! Twenty minutes into the show I walked out onto the ice on our fjord to capture some of the lights dancing over the mountain tops. Beautiful night for photography.
