There are only a few aurora photographing days left in Fairbanks. To the north there is now a constant very dim glow from the sun even through nautical twilight. The extra color, and the quarter moon, make a beautiful backdrop for a bright aurora.

In Alaska, aurora season isn't over until the stars are all but wiped out by the blue of twilight. The latest I've seen aurora at this latitude is May 22nd. This display last night was very graceful & brief, but stunning!

These aurora were photographed between 11 and 11:30 PM with the glow of the sunset silhouetting Mt. Mckinley in the Alaska Range. A rare treat to have the northern lights with the sunset.

Early this morning (after midnight) an approximately 30 second exposure caught the overexposed crescent Moon to the left of the Pleiades with a greenish eerie glow to the north. A photographic aurora in Pennsylvania??
